What is Artificial Insemination

Artificial Insemination is a fertility treatment in which sperm is placed directly into a woman’s reproductive tract — most often the uterus — to increase the chances of pregnancy.

The most common type is Intrauterine Insemination (IUI), where specially prepared (washed) sperm is inserted into the uterus around the time of ovulation. This procedure can use sperm from a partner or a donor and is often performed in combination with fertility medications to improve success rates.

Artificial insemination, most often performed as intrauterine insemination (IUI), is a quick, minimally invasive procedure.

  • The insemination itself takes about 5–10 minutes.
  • Sperm preparation (washing) usually requires 30–60 minutes before the procedure.
  • Most patients complete the entire visit in 1–2 hours and can resume normal activities immediately.

Am I a Candidate?

If you are struggling to get pregnant because of PCOS endometriosis, mild male factors and unexplained infertility, artificial insemination may help you. Call the office to schedule a consultation and discuss the treatment.

Who Is a Good Candidate for Artificial Insemination?

Artificial insemination, including intrauterine insemination (IUI), is a simple and minimally invasive fertility treatment. It may be recommended for:

  • Individuals or couples experiencing mild male infertility, such as low sperm count or motility
  • Women with ovulation issues or irregular menstrual cycles
  • Cervical conditions that prevent sperm from reaching the uterus
  • Couples diagnosed with unexplained infertility
  • Same-sex female couples or single women using donor sperm
  • Those with sexual dysfunction or difficulties with intercourse

Artificial insemination may not be suitable in cases of blocked fallopian tubes, severe male infertility, or advanced maternal age with low ovarian reserve. In those situations, in-vitro fertilization (IVF) may be a better option.
